Major Painting Styles Of Haryana

Haryana has various styles of painting, which developed in 2500 BC. The Haryana paintings flourished mainly during the Gupta period, during 5th and 6th century. The ancient cities of Banawali (Fatehabad) and Mitathal (Bhiwani) were main centre of this art and painting. The history of Haryana painting is long back, the painting flourished during the period of Harsha, he was himself very fond of painting. After the death of Harsha, this art went into the hands of Rajputs, but got a set back during Sultanate period as the sultans were not at all interested in this art. But painting again flourished during the Mughal rule. Jahangir gave a major boost to art and painting.

Rajput Style

Rajput style of painting developed during the Rajput reign in Haryana. These paintings depict the great epic of Ramayana. Maharaja Tej Singh palace is an example of Rajput style of painting. 'Matru Mad Ki Piao' is a Rajput style of painting famous in Gurgaon, it is based on mythological subjects. But this style of painting is vanishing now. The paintings like Asthal, Bohar are also available in the style of the Rajput, the influence of this style of paintings can be seen in the temples of Lord Shiva at Panchkula
